Why a creator with 100 followers can get 2 million views

Nobody knows exactly what the algorithm will pick next. For a brand, that is the opportunity, as long as you pay the right way.

In short

Short-form feeds rank posts, not accounts. TikTok says follower count is not a direct factor in its For You recommendations, and Reels and Shorts also show posts to people who don't follow the creator. So a small account can post a video that reaches millions. Paying creators by follower count ignores this. Paying per view, up to a target, lets you benefit from it without betting your budget on it.

Feeds rank the post, not the account

TikTok has explained that follower count, and whether an account has had hits before, are not direct factors in what its For You feed recommends. Each video is judged on how the people who see it respond (TikTok Newsroom). Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts also recommend posts to people who don't follow the creator.

Followers still help. They are a post's first viewers. But they are a head start, not a ceiling.

How a post can go from 100 viewers to 2 million

  1. The feed shows a new post to a small group, including people who have never heard of the creator.
  2. It watches what they do. Do they watch to the end, watch again, share it, comment?
  3. If they respond well, it shows the post to a bigger group, and watches again.
  4. That loop repeats for as long as each new group keeps responding. A post can keep climbing for days.

Nothing in that loop asks how many followers the creator has. That is how an account with under 100 followers can end up with a post at 2 million views.

Nobody knows which post will pop

Not the creator, not an agency, and not us. Platforms don't publish their full ranking rules, and they change them. The honest conclusion is simple: don't pay in advance for a prediction. Pay for what actually happened.

What this means for how you pay

Paying by followers (flat fee)Paying per view, up to a target
Price is set byAudience size, before anyone postsViews counted after the post goes up
A small creator's post goes viralYou probably never booked themSame price per view as anyone, then free past your target
A big creator's post flopsYou paid in full, no refundYou pay only for the views that happened
Fake followersThey raise the price you payThey earn nothing: only counted views pay

Fake or bot followers are the most reported type of influencer fraud, at 56.5% of reports (Influencer Marketing Hub benchmark).

How to set up for a breakout

  • Spread the budget across many creators. Ten posts are ten chances. You can't pick the winner in advance, so don't try.
  • Keep the brief natural. A post that feels like an ad gets scrolled past, and the feed stops showing it.
  • Set a sensible target. If one breakout post can reach your target on its own, everything else it does after that is free. How the target works.

Keep your expectations honest

Most posts get modest views. Breakouts happen, but they are rare and nobody can schedule one. We won't promise you a viral post. What we can promise is how the money works: views that never happen cost $0, and views past your target cost $0.

Questions people ask

Can a small account really go viral?

Yes. TikTok says follower count is not a direct factor in its recommendations, and Reels and Shorts also show posts to non-followers. It is not common or predictable for any single post, which is why paying per view is safer than paying for a guess.

Should I only work with small creators?

Not only. When you pay per view, follower count stops affecting the price, so you can work with small and large creators at the same rate and let the views decide.

Do followers matter at all?

They give a post its first viewers, which is a head start. Beyond that, how people respond to the post decides how far it goes.

How are small creators paid on aimviews?

The same price per 1,000 views as anyone else, set by the brand. Follower count is never part of the price.
